Description
The Primitive Way, recognized as a World Heritage Site for its historical and cultural importance, is the oldest Jacobean route. This itinerary, frequented by Asturians and Galicians since the 9th century, runs largely on ancient Roman roads. Its origin is linked to Alfonso II the Chaste, the first pilgrim, and it was also traveled twice by Alfonso III the Great, who consecrated the second basilica in Santiago in 899. Along the Primitive Way, the pilgrim crosses municipalities such as Lugo, Melide, Arzúa and Palas de Rei, a unique experience on horseback that unites history, nature and spirituality.
